Event Description : Akshara Theatre presents “India’s War of Independence – 1857” English Play. From the book Red Lotus by Parag Tope and 1857 compilations translated into English by Mrinal Pande. A thrilling account of the times and events surrounding the 1st war of Independence, told through the only Indian eye-witness account of the events the papers of young priest Vishnu Bhatt. The play focuses on the heroic and far-thinking young Queen, Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, who lived and died a free woman, despite all the manipulations and machinations of the British. The play gives us an intimate look at the life and time of the Rani and is an explosive recounting of history.
